Meet Us

AD

Well this is us! Kelly and Adam Simmonds, we hope you enjoy browsing our website and reading about our little family of cocker spaniels.

We jointly registered the Keladity kennel name with the Kennel Club in 2001 after becoming increasingly interested in showing and breeding cocker spaniels. We only keep small numbers of dogs so that each one gets plenty of time and attention, our dogs live with us in our home and are much loved companions.

We still have lots to learn but we have high aims for our small quality show kennel and are very lucky to have the opportunity of owning some super foundation dogs with some of the most famous and finest bloodlines in this country. We hope to continue on with these lines maintaining the excellent type, temperament and health status.

We owe many thanks to our family and friends for their help, advise and support - you know who you all are and the parts you have played in helping Keladity to be successful.

Thank you all xxxxxx

Here is a little bit more about each of us......

Kelly

My main passion as a child from the moment I could walk and talk was horses.

My grandfather bought all of his 7 grandchildren a pony in 1986. Betty (Pantour Bracken) was a 12HH Welsh Mountain Section A. As we grew up we sadly all out grew her but we couldn't part with her and she remained a firm part of our family. Sadly she passed away in February 2006 leaving us heart broken, she was such a cheeky pony, I miss her greatly.

I was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of a local lady. I will always be grateful to Heather who allowed and trusted me to ride her horses and ponies. I enjoyed most of my teenage years from dusk til dawn living and breathing horses, I am competative and especially enjoyed competing at show jumping or my favorite, cross country events.

My favorite horse was Danny a Welsh Cob Section D and he lived almost half of his life after an illness, with only one eye, although this never stopped his love of jumping and he was always in the red rosettes.  At times he could be a 'live wire' but I always felt safe in the knowledge that if I got into trouble at a fence he would always get me out of it! Oh what fun we had!! Sadly Danny had to be put to sleep in 2001 he will always have a special place in my heart.

On a doggy note my dad purchased our first family cocker when I was around 3-4 years old 'Goldie'. She was from Kavora/Tarrazzo lines. We used to take her to exemption shows and we even held mini shows in our back garden! My parents often have fun reminding me of the agility courses I used to set up in the back garden too!

Sadly we lost Goldie on 01/04/96 which ironically was her 11th Birthday. Then along came Pepsi whom descended from Cardamine lines. From Pepsi's second litter we kept a golden and called her Rosie. Adam and I showed her mostly at exemption shows and this is when the showing bug really took hold of us.

(Thanks mum for all your help with the dogs, where would we be without you!!??!!)

Rosie had a litter from which we kept Ebony, my parents kept two black & tan puppies Milly & Toby. Toby was shown for a while and did very well at open show level, he now lives in a retirement home with Peter & Sharon whom have given him a lovely home and regulary bring him back to see us.

As well as showing my dogs I also like to give something back and enjoy getting involved, helping out and spending time with like minded doggy people. I have been on the committee of the Solid Colours Cocker Spaniel Association since 2006 and I am thoroughly enjoying being a part of the Association and working with a such a dedictated, hardworking bunch of people to benefit our lovely breed.

At every opportunity I like to attend seminars not just seminars on Cockers but on other gundog breeds aswell also Health & Genetics, Grooming, Breeding and Judging seminars.  I enjoy widening my knowledge and listening to the experts in their fields, there is always something to be learnt from dog folk!

I too have a love of animals especially dogs. Our first family dog was a GSD cross and I hadn’t come across cocker spaniels until I was introduced to them along with Kelly’s family. Cocker spaniels now remain a firm favorite for me.

We decided to start our kennel from fresh lines and after a considerable amount of research, and endless enjoyable hours spent ringside we decided to approach Sandy Platt from the Charbonnel Kennels for a bitch puppy.

We had both fallen head over heels with Frankie 'SH CH Charbonnel Warlord', not because he was a champion, I hasten to add, but because he was and still is to us, everything a cocker should be and more. We are thrilled that he has now gone on to be the top winning black male cocker of all time in this country, collecting an amazing 29 Challenge Certificates.

It's not always possible to attend shows with Kelly as the other dogs at home need my attention but I do enjoy getting involved when I am able and I quite often steward at local shows.

I also enjoy attending seminars, in 2005 we both observed at the Solid Cocker Spaniel Clubs 'Hands on Judging Assessment'. We both took the plunge and took the breed specific 'Hands on Judging Assessment' in 2006 which we were thrilled to pass. Also we have passed the KC Confirmation and Movement, Rules and Regulations and Points of the Dog Assessments. More recently we attended the United Spaniel Associations Sporting Spaniel Breed Seminar. I have also judged at Open Show level which I thoroughly enjoyed and I am on the Cocker Spaniel Clubs C Judging list.

I hope to attend more seminars in the future to further my knowledge which will also help us when making breeding decisions. It is also great to meet new faces & talk with like minded doggie people.
