Sorry it has taken us so long to update our website but we have been quite busy at home and haven't attended many shows. We shall hopefully be moving house in the next week or so (must be mad this close to Christmas!!) Our e-mail and internet connection maybe down for a few weeks. We are both very excited about moving to a new home although we have a lot of hard work ahead of us!! Hopefully we shall still find time to show the dogs after we have all settled in.
Yesterday me and my mum took Ginny along to the London Cocker Championship Club Show - one of my favorites. We had a lovely day ringside whatching the dogs and catching up with friends. Later I was very pleased with Ginny she received a 2nd place in her class out of 12 dogs.

After a break from showing we took Ginny to the East Anglian Cocker Spaniel Clubs Open Show at the weekend. Our judge for the day was Miss Dawn Young (Canyonn). We were pleased with Ginny's 2nd place although she couldn't contain herself and was rather excited at being back in the ring!!!!

Today me and my friend had a day out and attended a Health and Genetics Seminar organised by The Cocker Spaniel Club.
The seminar included a talk covering DNA Testing for GPRA and FN plus a question and answer session with Dr Jeff Sampson (Kennel Club Canine Genetics Co-Ordinator) It was a very enjoyable day and very interesting to listen to Dr Sampson.

In our quest for knowledge and understanding of our lovely breed, on bank holiday Monday we attended a Confirmation and Movement seminar including a breed specific Hands on Judging Assessment run jointly by the Solid Colours Cocker Spaniel Association and Coventry Cocker Spaniel Club. Speakers were KC Accredited Trainer Dr Ron James and Senior Assessor Mrs Anne Webster (Asquanne). It was a very enjoyable and interesting day and subsequently we have received confirmation that we both passed the assessment.

Another fantastic day was had at the London Cocker Spaniel Club's Open Show. Our judge for the day was A1 listed breed judge Ian Scott (Middlegill). Ginny showed beautifully for me, won her class and then went on to win Reserve Best in Show.
What a star she is!!!

Wow what a fantastic day we had at the Cocker Spaniel Club's Championship show. We were thrilled that Ginny won a strong class under breed specialist Jackie Marris-Bray (Helenwood). It was also great to finally meet my e-mail friend Iva Raiy (Black Majesty Cocker Spaniels) who came all the way over to the show from Croatia.

We have also been rather busy at home! Jazzy produced our first home-bred litter. We are thrilled with a super litter of strong healthy pups. Puppy page coming soon!!

Lee has produced some excellent photographic work and was very understanding and patient with the pups - Thanks Lee!!

Sorry we haven't had a chance to updated our site recentley. We haven't been to many shows recently but have a few coming up so we are looking forward to those.
We are absolutely thrilled with the wonderful news that researchers at Texas A&M University have found the gene mutation responsible for Familial Nephropathy and that a genetic test for carriers will be available within the next 4 months. This is excellent news enabling breeders to test their dogs and give them the opportunity to clear affected lines. We hope to have our girls tested as soon as the test becomes available.
Visit the European FN Fund website for more information and take a look at the final on-line auction - lots of nice items up for grabs!!

It was great to catch up with Sandy and Hannah whom had brought along Ginny's litter brother 'Teddy' Charbonnel Interlord. Teddy also won his class so it was a good day for our little monkeys!!

We didn't go to any shows over Easter however I did steward at a local open show. It was my first time so I was a little nervous. It was quite interesting to be on the otherside of the table in the ring. It got a little complicated when we got to the AV's and the 'seen dogs' but I managed to get through it and my judge for the day said she wouldn't have known it was my first stewarding appointment! I shall certainly be a little more considerate to ring stewards from now on now that I appreciate what is involved!!!

It has been a very sad time for me recently. Our family pony 'Betty' recently passed away leaving me heartbroken. She was an old lady reaching 29 years old.
I have some great memories of her though ... she was hardly the ideal childs 'bomb proof' pony. I lost count of the times I ended up in a heap on the ground!!! Her spirited cheeky streak was what I loved about her though. She was fairly well bred and I think a very pretty pony, she had the typical dished face of the Welsh Mountain Pony.

1994- My Cousin and Betty receiving a trophy for raising the most sponsor money after taking part in a sponsored ride for the ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) Over the years Betty took part in several sponsored rides and raised a considerable amount of money for the ILPH.
Ginny won the Post-graduate breed class at the East Kent Canine Society show also she was placed 2nd in a very large stakes class winning us £20.00! Breed judge was Sirpa Huusari (Sirkiss) who came over from Finland and the stakes judge was Championship show judge Terry Thorn.

We had a great start to the show season at the weekend. We went to the Henley-On-Thames Canine Society Premier Show. Ginny won the Junior class and Jazzy was placed 2nd in the Graduate class. A very nice golden dog was awarded Best of Breed and Ginny was given Reserve Best of Breed. The breed judge was Mary Palmer (Jacanwood). It was Ginny's last Junior class as she is 18 months old on 1st Feb, she is all grown up now...... and what a lovely young lady she has grown into. As you might guess we are very pleased with her!!
We haven't been to any shows this year yet but we have a few coming up shortly. The dogs have been chilling out and taking it easy.
We are very lucky to have some beautiful country side around us, we have some meadows close by which we can take the dogs over to run around and let off steam! More pictures have been added to the photo page.

Who says show girls can't get Wet and Muddy!

We spent a cold but nice day at the Mid Herts Gundog Club Open Show. Our little star, Ebony managed to pass her Bronze and Silver KC Good Citizen Awards. We were so proud considering she hasn't been to obedience classes for years.
While we were at the show we took advantage of the eye testing that was being held. Jazzy was examined by Professor Bedford and emerged with a clear eye certificate and also clear of Goniodysgenesis.
Not to be left out! Ginny also came away with a nice win in the Junior Breed Class.
06/11/05
I attended the Home Counties Cocker Spaniel Club's Grooming Seminar which was held by Ann & Phil Richardson. Me & a friend managed to borrow 2 hairy cockers to practise our hand stripping and trimming on. We had a very worthwhile and enjoyable day including a super buffet lunch.

October
We had a fantastic holiday in Olu Deniz in Turkey at the end of September. A big thank you to my mum & dad and my sister Michelle for taking great care of the dogs and spoiling them rotten!! We came back to some..... Great News!!!
We sent a blood sample, from Jazzy to Optigen in America to be DNA tested and the results came back as Normal/Clear which means that she will never develop the prcd form of PRA (progressive rod-cone degeneration form of Progressive Retinal Atrophy). So far, the only inherited PRA disease known in dogs of our breed is the prcd form of PRA.
She can be bred to any genetically Normal/Clear dog and will produce no pups affected with the prcd form of PRA. For further information, visit the OptiGen website at www.optigen.com.
We have also received Ginny's hip score results and are very pleased with the results of 6:5 which is below average for the breed..
10/09/05
Yesterday we took Ginny to Richmond champ show and she won the VHC place in the junior class.
Over the bank holiday weekend our very good friend Lee kindly came over to take some photos of the dogs for the cocker spaniel club year book. We were very pleased with the final prints (see Jazzy's and Ginny's pages). Lee is self taught and has a very good talent. Thanks Lee!! If anybody is interested in Lee's work please visit his website www.lenphotografix.co.uk
