 News 2009

What a fantastic way to end the Year!!!

Dolly gains her Junior Warrant at 14 months old

(Subject to KC Confirmation)

28/12/09

A fantastic day was had at the Ashbourne & District Canine Society's Open Show. Dolly won the junior, graduate, post graduate and open classes in good company under breed judge Kate Siviter (Trentshome).

This resulted in her gaining more than enough points to gain her Junior Warrant Title. Which for those who don't know what this means; this enters her in the KC Stud book and qualifies her to compete at Crufts for life. We can also add the title JW to the end of her show name.

We are over the moon and would like to thank all judges who have appreciated her qualities and fellow exhibitors and friends for your support and good wishes. A special thanks to Dolly's breeders - Sue & Annie Kettle too for allowing us to have our beautiful girl, she certainly has fulfilled her early promise!

We wish you all a Happy New Year!

27/12/09

Today we went to Stourbridge & District Open Show where Dolly won 2 classes under breed judge Paula Witham (Arrifana).

Merry Christmas

to all our family, friends and Keladity Owners x

Thank you for all the lovely Christmas cards received from Keladity owners, they really are a joy to receive and it's heart warming to hear how our dogs are getting along. Here is a photo we received from John & Hazel when we visited them and Ginny in the summer.

20/12/2009

A trip down to the Colchester Canine Open Show today, proved fruitful with Dolly winning 2 classes and Reserve Best of Breed under judge Fiona Robertson. A few more Junior Warrant Points obtained - nearly there Dolly !!!

19/12/2009

Today me and a friend took the dogs to the Lincoln Canine Society's Open Show. Dolly won 4 classes and Best of Breed under Breed Judge Bea Robertson (Kastrian).

Fun in the snow!

12/12/2009

We went to LKA - Ladies Kennel Association at the NEC, the last Championship show of the year. Dolly was placed 4th in Special Yearling under Breed Specialist Mark Boswell (Marquell). Here is a photo of our beautiful Dolly...

Recently I have come across some pet cocker spaniels whose coats have been in a terrible state, thick matted coats and ears which clearly have not been trimmed for some time. It is very sad to see because it must be restrictive and uncomfortable for them. Cocker Spaniels usually need their coats trimmed or clipped every 8 -12 weeks by a professional dog groomer who will bath, dry and trim/clip your cocker spaniel for you. Usually it costs between £20-£30 a time and this should be something you should have budgeted for before buying a cocker spaniel. Not only is it uncomfortable for the dogs but it is asking for ear trouble leaving lots of over-grown hair around the opening of the ear and other health issues associated with poor coat condition. So please ensure your cocker gets a good daily brush -not just on the top of the coat but down to the skin, ears & armpits can be the worse areas plus a regular trip to the groomers!

Today The London Cocker Spaniel Society held their annual Championship Show. I went along with two friends and we had a great day catching up with friends, lots of laughs and good food! Dolly won 2 x 2nd's and a 3rd under breed specialist Joan Glennerster (Glenntree). Here are some photos...

We also had some fantastic news today as we received Dolly's hip score which is 6 / 7 giving a total of 13 which is below the Breed Mean Score.

29/11/2009

We had a lovely day at the North Mids & Eastern Counties Cocker Spaniel Clubs Open Show. There was a good atmosphere and the lunch put on for the exhibitors was lovely. Dolly did well and finished up wining 3x 1st 1x 2nd & 1x 3rd under Breed judge Kim Gain (Molkara).

28/11/2009

Dolly had a good day today at The West Torrington & District Canine Club's Open Show. She won 3 classes and Best of Breed under Mrs G Dale (Aubanjon).

22/11/2009

Oh dear, what a very disappointing day for our Dolly! We went to Leicester Gundog Open show today and Dolly was UNPLACED! Judge for the cockers was Dachshund breeder Mrs W Minshull (Sidelock).

Our little star has done so well this year under some of the most respected breed judges at Championship show level and we have been given much positive encourangement. We didn't expect to win the class but were very surprised at her dismisal!! Nethertheless I was proud of of my little girl who as always showed her socks off and gave me her all.

3 hours drive there and 3 hours drive back - a day wasted but hey you have to grin and bear it as that's dog showing, you just have to take it on the chin! ....

Onwards and upwards to the next one!

15/11/2009

Me and a friend went to the Coventry Cocker Spaniel Clubs Championship show today, Dolly was placed 4th in her class under Breed judge Derek Shapland (Deracor). I was thrilled for my friend Sam who gained her Stud Book Number with her blue boy Toby. Well done Tobes!

Today we went to Huntingdonshire Canine Society Open Show under breed judge Heather Chaplin (Ginger Paws). We were thrilled that Dolly won 3 classes and her first Best of Breed.

03/11/2009

Today I judged 5 classes of cocker spaniels at the Romsey and District Canine Sociey's Open Show in Southampton. I had some good dogs to assess and found my Best of Breed in a smart black dog 'Sunnersett Moonlighting', Best Opposite Sex was a beautifully headed bitch 'Asquannes Go-Likely at Beechtops' and Best Puppy was a very promising orange bitch 'Rosie's Ramblin Rose'. Thank you for a lovely day.

A busy weekend for The Solid Colours Cocker Spaniel Association as we held our 2nd Championship Show in Milton Keynes today. The show went really well, I organised the raffle along with Ellen which went down well with our Halloween theme! I'm really proud to be part of the team; a great bunch of people who know how to get things done but with much joviality along the way!! Here are some photos....

Another busy weekend. Tinker left for pastures new today, she has joined Mike & Leslie who live only a few villages away which means we will be seeing lots of her, which is perfect. Thank you both for giving our girlie a fabulous home. It's never easy letting dogs go and we are very strict and particular about where they go to, we do however get lots of pleasure about hearing how they are doing and the joy they bring to other peoples lives.

On Saturday me and a friend did the long drive (4hrs 20 mins!) to the West of England Cocker Spaniel Clubs Championship show near Bristol. It was worth the journey as Dolly was placed 1st in Maiden & 2nd in Special Beginners by Breed specialist Sarah Amos-Jones (Cassom) and we had a lovely day catching up with cocker folk.

We had a lovely day at the Newmarket and District Open Show. The weather was glorious and it was interesting to watch the obedience competitions that were taking place. More seminars this weekend.... On Saturday I attended a grooming seminar organised by the East Anglian Cocker Spaniel Club. Michael Parkinson (Dillonpark) gave an indepth grooming demonstration which was really interesting and then we all had a go on our own dogs. Tinker now has beautifully trimmed feet!

Today I went to a talk in Cambridge about Hip Dysplasia in dogs given by vet Helen Papworth MA VetMB MRCVS and the Canine Herpes Virus by Caroline Conacher from Meriel.

15/02/2009

Today I attended another excellent seminar/educational day organised by the Southern English Springer Spaniel Society in aid of the Cambridge University research project into Canine Hepatitis.

The Seminar was aptly called 'Sex on Sunday' and started with a practical morning talk hosted by Lynne Hennessey of the Ritzilyn Golden Retrievers who has over 40 years experience in stud work. Lynne's light hearted presentation included video clips, practical tips inc mental and physical preparation of the stud dog and the considerate and effective handling of stud dogs and visiting bitches.

The afternoon session was hosted by Keith Shea (Fit & Fertile Ltd) who gave a more scientific presentation of the biology of Canine Reproduction, Freezing semen for future generations and Artifical Insemination.

It was a very informative day and i'm sure will be of great benefit to us when we decide to keep stud dogs.

It was lovely to receive an e-mail and photos today from the Browning Family with an update about Tarka.

'He is doing great, and is well behaved, most of the time. Only a tiny incident with a small fruit cake that vanished the week before christmas!! Cling film, ribbon and paper left as evidence on the floor!! As you can see, he still LOVES his ball... carries it around all the time.'

It's a very sad day today for our family as my parents oldest cocker spaniel Pepsi (our Ebony's Granny) had to be put to sleep to prevent further suffering. Pepsi was 13 years old and had lived a very healthy and happy life until recently. Rest in Peace Peps we will miss you xxx

Today I attended a seminar as an observer 'Learning the Language of the Dog' held by one of the local training clubs I go to and hosted by Sarah Jenkins from Groveshill Dog Whisperers. It was an interesting day and certainly was very thought provoking. Some members took along their dogs that they were having problems with and it was interesting to see how Sarah advised them to deal with their behavioural problems. I am looking forward to catching up with them in a few weeks to see how they are getting on.
